Salvations 2012 Update

Hello all,

Thanks for all of the support!  The Three Tree Coffee table won "The People's Choice award."  I'm extremely excited about it.

Christal from the The Green Project contacted me a few minutes ago. It seems that Brad Pitt's organization "Make it Right" liked my furniture designs as well as 3 other designers.  Though still in early phases of development, they'd like me to supply furniture for their model homes, and they'd like to sell my designs.   This is not charity on my part, they want to pay for my designs.
Whether or not it works out...it's incredibly flattering!

Here is the professional snapshot of the Three Tree Table taken by Sarah Essex Bradley.

More details will follow when I find out more!

Salvations 2012 Coffee table piece

As many of you know, I'm participating in Salvations 2012 furniture design contest.  The pieces will be on  display starting tomorrow at The Shops on Canal place until April 21 when the contest wraps up and the winners are announced.  If I get selected as one of the top five finalists, I'll have an additional 4 tickets for the gala event on the April 21st.

Here is the piece:

Called the Three Tree Table, it's an apartment-sized coffee table made from 3 different woods. The base is made from antique pine and the top is made from antique cypress; both circa 1885. The accent shelf is salvaged pallet wood colored in cobalt blue. The peice has four coats of finish starting with sanding sealer, then two coats of oil-based poly, followed by a hand rubbed wax.

The table top is made from baseboards from an old house off of Prytania st.  The legs came from the same house.  The rails were sawn from stair treads from a demolition  in New Orleans.

Intro

I create custom-crafted furniture mostly from reclaimed wood and other materials taken from demolished New Orleans homes and other south louisiana structures. Many pieces of lumber still have the original saw marks from the old mills where they were processed. Each piece is unique. I take custom orders, and will also recreate my existing designs. I can also create that perfect piece to fit a special spot in your home.

This started out as a hobby and a necessity.  My wife and I began exploring recycled and reclaimed antique woods.  The first project was a small nightstand for my son's room.     That evolved into bookshelves and a really cool coffee table and matching end tables.  Followed by console tables which were made from antique pine framing lumber and old cypress window casings.
